RC4 Commander Configuration Software:
v2.2.1 New For 2021!

RC4 Commander is NOT compatible with RC4 LumenDim or W-DIM systems.  For configuration of LumenDim devices, use RDM (remote device management).  RC4 Commander works with RC4Magic, RC4Magic-900, and RC5 EASS.

RC4 Commander 2.2.1 is now available for both Mac and PC!  This software supports RC4Magic Series 2 and Series 3, RC4Magic-900, and RC5 EASS systems.  As of v1.2, DEMO mode works without physical devices so you can try before you buy, complete with a sample RC4 Private IDentity™ file and a comprehensive set of virtual devices emulating a range of dimmers and pixel drivers.  Download and try it now!

To use RC4 Commander with your real RC4 hardware, you MUST request an encrypted RC4 Private IDentity™ file.  (NOTE: The file format is NOT the same as used with our older RC4MagicPC software.)
Request your ID file here, and select the first Ticket Type (Request System ID for RC4 Commander).

Treat your ID file carefully — it is the key to your worldwide RC4 system security.

Mac OS Version:

Install Instructions:

  • Download and unzip the file.
  • Open the dmg file (RC4Commander_xxx.dmg). It will appear as a virtual disk.
  • Open the virtual disk. Inside you will see the RC4 Commander application (.app file).
  • In a separate window, open your Applications folder.
  • Drag the RC4 Commander app from the virtual disk into the Applications folder. This COPIES the .app to Applications.
  • Go back to the virtual disk and eject it, removing it from the desktop.
  • RC4 Commander is now installed, and will appear in Dashboard. You can create an Alias to anywhere else you would like.

REMINDER: You need an encrypted RC4 Private IDentity™ file to enable communication between your Mac and your private RC4 wireless system.  LumenDim and W-DIM devices do not use RC4 Private IDentities and are not compatible with RC4 Commander.

Request your ID file here.

RC4MagicPC Configuration Software:

RC4MagicPC is NOT compatible with RC4 LumenDim or W-DIM systems.

This software is obsolete and is no longer supported.  It is not being updated to recognize new firmware features.  It is useful only when working with very old RC4Magic Series 2 devices (circa 2006 – 2009) that have not been updated to the final release version of firmware.  If you are not using legacy equipment, use RC4 Commander (see above).  This software runs on Microsoft Windows 7, 8, and 10.  It may work but is not officially supported for earlier versions of Windows.  It also works well on a Mac running Parallels, or with Bootcamp.  There has never been a Mac OS version of RC4MagicPC.

RC4MagicPC Remote Configuration Software for Series 3 Devices:
Not for Use with LumenDim or W-DIM Devices

As of v3.14.6.6, RC4 Wireless can provide you with an RC4Magic encrypted ID file for your system (NOTE: This file is not an RC4 Commander Private IDentity™ file).  If you have not been provided with your ID file, request it here.  Be sure to include your name or company name that is associated with your system in our database, and the IDs as marked on your device labels.

Treat your ID file carefully — it is the key to your worldwide RC4 system security.

If you do not have an ID file, your computer can also learn your IDs by connecting to one of your devices using the ID3/Public ID, which is the same on all devices ever built. This process is demonstrated in this video:

For RC4Magic Series 2 Users with Firmware Older than 3.0xx:

The first time you use RC4MagicPC, the software must learn your unique and private RC4 System IDs.  This process is demonstrated in a video listed above.

Additional Resources for RC4Magic-900 Users:

As of v3.14.6.6, RC4 Wireless can provide you with an encrypted ID file for your system (NOTE: This file is not an RC4 Commander Private IDentity™ file).  If you have not been provided with your encrypted ID file, request it here.  Be sure to include your name or company name that is associated with your system in our database, and the IDs as marked on your device labels.

** Rather than use RC4MagicPC with RC4Magic-900, please update the firmware in your devices and switch to using RC4 Commander.  All you need to update the firmware is an RC4 CodeLoader cable and our CodeLoader app (see below). **

USB Drivers for all RC4 Devices
(Dongles, CodeLoader cables, etc.)

All RC4 devices with USB connectors use interface technology by FTDI, the industry leader in USB connectivity worldwide.

All common operating systems include FTDI drivers natively, making it unnecessary — when everything is working as it should — for you to download and install drivers manually.

Nonetheless, things happen. It’s not our fault.  :)

If your system is not recognizing your RC4 dongle, CodeLoader cable, or other RC4 device with a USB connection, try downloading and installing the FTDI drivers manually.  Get the most current drivers directly from the manufacturer:

* NOTE: If you are running Mac OS with Parallels or other virtual machine platform, be sure the RC4 device is assigned to the system that needs it.  For example, if you are running RC4 Commander for Mac OS, be sure the CodeLoader cable isn’t connected to Windows in Parallels. *

RC4 Series 3 Harmonized Design Firmware Update Files:

New RC4 Series 3 SX Firmware is now available! Updates are compatible with all Series 3 Harmonized Design hardware, all the way back to first release in Aug 2014.
The zip files below contain firmware for ALL devices in each product family. You MUST CodeLoad the correct file for the device you are updating. Loading the wrong file will NOT brick the device, it will simply not operate as expected. In many cases rapid and continuous LED flashing indicates an incorrect firmware file. Repeat the CodeLoader process using the correct file.

An RC4 CodeLoader cable or equivalent is REQUIRED to upload firmware to Series 3 devices.
Purchase a CodeLoader cable.

Video tutorials showing how to upload all our devices are provided on our RC4 Documentation and Support Website, http://rc4.info.
Always restore defaults after updating firmware.
Failure to do so may result in unexpected behavior.
